Sticky note feedback

October 5, 2011

Want to give feedback that is personalized? Use sticky notes to support your students throughout the day- when you see a student working well with peers, jot your observation on a Post-it and leave it on his/her desk! If a learner helped you facilitate an activity, create a quick “thank you”. Students will love receiving a supportive note and these can come in handy especially when you’d like to provide a cue, tip, or feedback in a more private and potentially more powerful way. Check out Mrs. Sphon’s idea-filled blog for this idea and so many others: Mrs. Sphon’s Adventures in 4th Grade and Beyond.

Sticky notes were the best invention for teachers, in my opinoin. How did we ever survive without them?
I have been using them recently to put a note into homework, so the kids get the note when they open their homework to do on a new day.
After a PD earlier this year on boys’ education, I also learnt that with girls – if you give them a compliment, they will remember it, but boys need it to be written down for them. Your sticky note post above fits in beautifull with that.
