Mapping Holden Caufield

September 15, 2011

I realized today that I had not featured resources for English teachers recently so I hunted for a neat idea that would work well in a diverse classroom. When I stumbled on Tom Fasano’s blog- yourenglishclass.com, I knew I would find something great to share. The cool DI idea that I snagged was his Catcher in the Rye graphic organizers.

This assignment works well for collaborative groups and individuals, it lets artistic and visual students shine and learners with a wide range of abilities can participate and effectively show their knowledge. If you have students who struggle with comprehension, let them create the map as they read instead of completing the task when they finish the text.

This is a great idea that can be done with any book with “visual expression” of the setting!
